Charms and crystals

I wonder if any of you are into Feng Shui (fung shway) stuff... my sister is an absolute fan and believer for some odd reasons. We even got a huuuuuge Eight Galloping Horse ceramic frame at home that doesn't match with our furnitures but we hang it anyway because it symbolizes infinite success and prosperity. She has several totems and bracelets which are believed to ward off bad luck from her business. One time, I was scolded for bringing home a pet turtle and a bunch of cacti, for these I think are bad lucks as well!

Feng shui according to wikipedia is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of both Heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive qi or energy flow. YEs.....it's all about positive energy flow....harmony with oneself and your surroundings.

Feng Shui is such big deal in my country during New Year....we're not even Chinese for petesake but it's somewhat obligatory to perform rituals on NYE...like wearing red for good luck, hang grapes on our door, a black rug on our doorstep and LOADING your pockets with coins for wealth on the next year to come. Ridiculous? no?

In preparation, I was compelled to visit Binondo (Chinatown) yesterday and get this amulet, charm, hocus pocus bling bling, whatever you call it! :) It was blessed by the monks, pre cleansed and energized. They put it on a tiny pot and I had to make a wish and then they did a hair-raising ceremonial thing on the bracelet before I wore it. It's cool actually and I was really attentive while they explain the meaning of each charm and crystals. This is especially made for me. They asked what do I want......and I said "love, good health and happiness".

The Mandarin Ducks above symbolizes happiness in love and is suggestive of romance, devotion, affection and fidelity. They are guarded by the two Tiger's Eye beads. The tiger's eye bead is used for a calming effect and protection from negative influences.

The Wu Lou (yellow gourd) or giver of life is for good health.

I always thought of this whole thing as an absolute nonsense especially when I cannot bring home a turtle...but I think FengShui has a positive influence on myself...so that's alright I guess. For me, these are just mere representations or reminders to always stay positive and harmonious about life, love and what not. This does not dictate your life of course. :)

HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Maligayang bagong taon in Filipino. :)

You're absolutely right, it's best to stay positive and harmonious about life. Having little representations and reminders such as these bracelets is a good way to stay tuned in to those patterns of thought. Happy 2010! :)

nice post. Actually it's not bad luck to take care of a turtle as they symbolize longevity in feng shui. I'm a feng shui practioner myself and I believe in the balance of life.

•The baby turtle is a symbol of wonderful good luck for all descendants. I think it's only filipinos who believe that turtles bring bad luck because they are slow. Don't get me wrong though, I am filipino myself.

Have a blessed and prosperous Chinese New Yr!!!
